A gifted performer and burgeoning composer, Kurt Ciesla is a unique voice in the music world. His career spans over two decades and encompasses such disparate genres as jazz, country, funk, and blues.
Kurt is a versatile bass player whose chops are evident whether he chooses to play a double or an electric bass. Treating the bass as a solo instrument rather than just rhythmic support, he has toured the world to regale crowds large and small with his distinct brand of music. Whether he is slapping, bowing, or simply laying it down, Ciesla is sure to delight.
More recently, Kurt has expanded his talents by performing lead vocals and playing rhythm guitar. His natural musical ability has allowed him to excel in these new pursuits.
A native of Lethbridge, Alberta, his formal training includes stints at the Banff Centre, Grant MacEwan College, and Capilano College. Kurt spent over two decades touring and recording as the bass player with Corb Lund. Highlights of his musical career have included opportunities to study with his hero, Dave Holland, and Effortless Mastery‘s Kenny Werner; perform on the same stage as Herbie Hancock; share the mic with Feist; backup Ian Tyson; and play the main stage at the Glastonbury Festival.
